Why bring in outside strategy

The AI market is noisy. Every vendor claims their product solves every problem. Every LinkedIn post promises 10x productivity. Most of it is wrong for your specific business, and the cost of picking the wrong tool is usually 3–6 months of lost time before anyone admits it.

A good strategy engagement saves you that time. We have seen what works and what doesn't across dozens of Australian businesses. We translate current AI capability (agents, RAG, voice, extraction, code generation) into concrete processes in your business, and we stress-test each one before you commit budget.

Our incentive is to give you a useful plan, not to sell you seats of a platform.

Three ways to engage

Tier 1

AI Readiness Review

$3,500

  • 1-week sprint
  • Single half-day workshop
  • Top 5 use-cases ranked
  • 5–10 page written summary
  • 90-minute findings call
Tier 2 · most popular

Full Strategy Engagement

$8,500–$15,000

  • 2–4 week engagement
  • 3–5 workshops across departments
  • Process observation on-site
  • Full roadmap (20–40 pages)
  • Vendor shortlist + budget model
  • Board-ready executive summary
Tier 3

Fractional AI Advisor

$2,500–$5,000/mo

  • Monthly retainer
  • Ongoing vendor evaluation
  • Implementation oversight
  • Quarterly board reporting
  • Direct Slack/phone access

How a full engagement runs

  1. 1
    Kick-off

Meet leadership, agree scope, collect existing process docs, set interview schedule.

  2. 2
    Discovery workshops

One workshop per department (ops, finance, sales, service). Map workflows, pain points, volumes.

  3. 3
    Process observation

Shadow key roles for a half-day each. See what is actually happening, not what the org chart says.

  4. 4
    Use-case long list

Draft a list of every AI-applicable process. Typically 20–40 candidates before filtering.

  5. 5
    Rank + stress-test

Score each by ROI, effort, risk, data readiness. Kill the weak ones. Validate the top 5–10.

  6. 6
    Roadmap + vendors

Sequence the survivors across 12 months. Vendor shortlist where tooling is needed. Budget model.

  7. 7
    Readout + handover

Present findings to leadership. Written document delivered. Q&A. You own everything — including if you take it to another builder.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does an AI strategy engagement actually produce?

+
A written roadmap document (20–40 pages) that lists every use-case we identified in your business, ranked by ROI and effort. Each use-case has a recommended approach, budget estimate, risk notes, and a first-year payback model. You also get a one-page executive summary, a vendor shortlist where tooling is required, and a 12-month sequencing plan. The deliverable is yours — no lock-in, no obligation to build with us.

How is this different from the free AI strategy call?

+
The free call is a 30-minute conversation to scope one or two high-confidence use-cases. A paid strategy engagement is a 2–4 week process: discovery workshops with your team, process observation, data audit, vendor landscape review, and a written roadmap covering your whole operation. Free calls work when you know roughly what you want to automate; paid strategy works when the question is "where should we even start?"

How much does it cost?

+
Three tiers. AI Readiness Review: $3,500 AUD (1 week, 1 workshop, short written recommendation). Full Strategy Engagement: $8,500–$15,000 AUD (2–4 weeks, multiple workshops, full roadmap). Ongoing Fractional AI Advisor: $2,500–$5,000 AUD/month (monthly retainer, continuous advisory, vendor evaluation, board reporting). All exclude GST.

Are you vendor-neutral?

+
Yes — this matters. We are not a reseller for Microsoft, Google, OpenAI, Anthropic, Salesforce, or any other platform. We do not earn referral fees from the vendors we recommend. Our revenue comes from clients paying us for advice and build. When we recommend a platform it is because it fits your problem, not because someone is paying us to recommend it.

Do we need our own data for AI to be useful?

+
Less than you think. Many of the highest-ROI AI applications (document extraction, email triage, voice agents, summarisation) work on the data already flowing through your business — emails, PDFs, phone calls, forms, CRM records. You rarely need a data warehouse to start. Part of the strategy engagement is mapping what data you already have and what shape it is in, not recommending you build a data lake.

Will you recommend we do nothing?

+
Sometimes, yes. If your core processes are broken, undocumented, or in the middle of a system migration, adding AI on top will amplify the mess. In those cases we recommend either (a) fixing the foundations first, or (b) starting with one narrow use-case that does not depend on the broken parts. We would rather tell you not to spend than sell you a project that fails.

Who is this for?

+
Australian businesses roughly $2M–$50M revenue, owner-operated or early PE-backed, with 10–200 staff. Usually in services, trades, healthcare, logistics, professional services, or light manufacturing. Too small and the overhead of strategy work does not pay back; too large and internal consulting teams cover this. If you are outside that range, we will tell you on the intro call rather than take the engagement.
